A History of Vanishing
2026
A sudden death. A photographic investigation into memory, domestic abuse and the stories families never tell. Work in progress
Gather the Bones
2024
Shortlisted BJP Portrait of Britain 2025 & RADAR 2024. This is a story set in a forest, where women and shamans find healing in nature. To "gather the bones" symbolises reclaiming the hidden or forgotten parts of ourselves that have been suppressed. In a world where womanhood often feels like a performance, time spent alone in a Bronze Age landscape offers a chance to reconnect with our selves. The work is a story of renewal. I Am
2022
"Incredibly moving and inspiring: ... inspiring because these photographs show us how survivors can, and do, take back their own identity and their own stories... Part of the power of these photographs lies in the fact that the images are not of victims as we might have supposed, but, in the words of one of them, "strong, brave feisty survivors, changing the journey from victim to victor." Queen Camilla Dedicated to the 46 participants and the 7 people who had to withdraw for personal safety. Not forgetting those in witness protection who shared a story, but could not have a portrait taken. Commissioned by SafeLives and SICK! (Selection of images).
Still I Rise
2022
Created on location. 50 NHS commissioned portraits. A photographic project by artist Allie Crewe exploring resilience, identity and lived experience through collaborative portraiture and the stories people share. Commissioned project - 2022.
Feathers of Hope
2021
"Hope is the thing with feathers – That perches in the soul – And sings the tune without the words – And never stops – at all.” – Emily Dickinson To move forward, we must sometimes let go of who we once were. Each participant in this project has lived through domestic abuse. Taking a collaborative approach, this work weaves together storytelling, portraiture, and lived experience into an intimate, survivor-led narrative. Though rooted in trauma, the project values agency, dignity, and personal transformation. Begun during an artist residency with SafeLives, in people’s homes and personal spaces. The Story of Olivia Fisher
2018
Ongoing project about Olivia Fisher, she/they. This is a story about Olivia and how she has embraced change. I wonder why we rigidly claim gender is binary and fixed when fluidity is so interesting. (Selection of Images)
Your Own Light
2019
50 portraits commissioned by The National Transgender Charity. Stories of transformation are fascinating. It is not just the physical changes, but how our internal, emotional lives change too. Your Own Light is a reference to the light within us that appears when we find a way out of the shadows. (Selection of images)
